a distance education programme on OpenGIS concepts

Internet course by the Department of GeoInformatics, the University of West Hungary and Department of Geography & Applied Geoinformatics, University of Salzburg with the collaboration of the lead GIS education and training sites in Europe.

Aims: The UNIPHORM course addresses a number of issues:

the ideas of Open Systems and interoperability, the technical developments

providing the ability and knowledge to navigate the open world of Geographic Information

the skills to use OpenGIS software, specifically Geomedia

listajel

background concepts and knowledge on the technical issues surrounding OpenGIS, such as spatial referencing, metadata, standards and databases.

Case studies

ECTS: The course is an element of the European Masters in GIScience programme co-ordinated by the University of Salzburg. The workload is recognised by 4 ECTS credits.

The course is supported by a CD-ROM and Web sites, Internet discussion forums. The participants will receive sample databases and a 90-day license of Intergraph Geomedia. Maximum number of workshop participants is 40. Please register as soon as possible.
