The University
of West Hungary is one of the largest universities in Hungary, with ten
faculties covering a wide range of sciences from Forestry and Economics to
Pedagogy and Agriculture. The Faculty of Geoinformatics is concerned with land
surveying, mapping, aerial surveying, satellite image processing, geographic
information systems, land management, spatial planning and development, and
land administration.
This Faculty is the
only one in Hungary which trains experts in surveying and mapping with the highest
level of practical knowledge.
The history of
the Faculty is closely connected with the history of surveying in Hungary. Higher
education of surveyors started in Székesfehérvár in 1962, and the Faculty has
been the residence of courses in land surveying since 1972 and land management
since 1975. A degree in property and land registration management was offered
from 2001, specialising in all legal, technical and IT subjects related to land
and property.
The academic
year 2005/2006 saw the introduction of the Bologna process, with our BSc degree
in geoinformatics, land management and land registry. Engineers with this type
of degree are able consciously to use in the workplace their up-to-date
knowledge in surveying, geoinformatics, regional development, land
consolidation and law. In the year 2006/2007 the degree in property and land
registration management was superseded by the Public Administration Management
BA specialising in real estate management.
The infrastructure
and lecturers of the Faculty, along with its national and international
reputation, all guarantee a marketable diploma and the right of entry to MSc
level. In 2009 the Faculty introduced the MSc
level education in land management.
